Look At The Bright Side
I suppose there is always a way to see good in any bad situation. Take this evening for instance. Class finish roughly on time but due to heavy afternoon rain the commute home was painful. Two hours sitting in my car. Now normally I get rather frustrated. But tonight I had a my latest 1000-page novel to keep me company. So if there hadn’t been any traffic I wouldn’t have read as many chapters as I did. But don’t get me wrong, I certainly don’t wish for traffic everyday… though that’s what I usually get.
Two groups of students today. My girls in the morning who did quite well following all our activities. I took over the second period with a craft exercise. They work great since they enforce all sorts of language and motor skills AND they take lots of time. I didn’t get to do any of the other lessons I had planned but I’ll just fill in tomorrow. My late afternoon class was an introduction for a couple of news high school students. Their language proficiency is better than they give themselves credit for. They just have to practice more and unlearn the crap they’ve been fed in normal school. I asked them what style of teaching their English instructor uses. One replied that the foriegn teacher writes material on the board and they copy it. That’s it. Their Thai English teacher isn’t much better. She just sits at her desk ad read word for word from the textbook. Kind of like a live books-on-tape but more expensive and twice and boring. How they ever got to the working level they have now is beyond me.
Finally updated my blog to include a gallery that used to be on MovableType. Stopped using that a long time ago since it was a rather static platform with major headaches updating it (Years ago when it first came out). Nowadays, a WordPress install is ten times as easy to install and maintain. Still have to import a bunch more galleries (albums) from the old gallery though and label the pictures. Little by little. I feel like a mad scientist putting Frankenstein together. Except I’m not a scientist.
