Sukhothai: Day 2
Up early … again. Just enough time for a quick breakfast of… bacon! And some yogurt as well. We drove over to the airport for an interview with Bangkok Aurways vice president. It went well. Then we headed back towards the hotel, stopping by an organic agriculture project farm. We had more food there and more fried bread with chili paste! Whoohoo! The interview was great. The farm was quite an educational experience. Lots of labor in rice farming. Most people don’t appreciate it. Afterwards it was back to the hotel for an interview with GM. Three interview within half a day. I wish yesterday was as productive!
Following the talk with the general manager, we took a van to eat lunch with rest of the crew. We arrived somewhat late so most of the food was gone. We picked at what was left though. Then it was back on the bus to visit more temple ruins. Amazing architecture. Khmer style. We stopped at many places but just few minutes for each. It felt so rushed! I really need to return on my own time for a real vacation. Towards the end of the day we stopped at a gold shop for ten minutes. I also got an interview with the owner. Very rushed. Then it was straight back to the airport and then Bangkok. There was one other presenter on the trip whom I didn’t know. Only on the flight back did I find out. I talk with her mom who also came on the trip. Her daughter is the former Miss Thailand! Who would have thought… Back in Bangkok I took a shuttle back to my car in long term parking. Then I drove my producer into city, dropped him off, and continued home. Then it was a shower and prepare for more interviews tomorrow. Ugh. It never ends!
Sukhothai: Day 1
It’s been a whirlwind day so this entry will reflect the hectic manner is which it played out…
Got to the airport at 6am. Way too early. Met with my producer/camera guy. The other producer showed up a little later. Grabbed quick breakfast. Congee. Checked in with public relations officer. Other media teams going as well. Flight was ok. Sleep… kinda. Arrive in Sukhothai go to hotel. Only 5 minutes away! Great weather. Cool. Breeze. Clean air. Beautiful hotel. Check in, shower, change, and leave quickly on bus. Tour around the province in the morning. Visit a couple temples sponsored by Bangkok Airways. Lunch with local style noodles. Good! In the afternoon visit ancient temple ruins in the north historical park and inner city. Latter is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take pictures. Shoot film. In the evening stop by a fruit orchard. Buy some yellow pears. Strange fruits, like a cross between a mango and a lime. The was also a fun park at a nearby temple. Quickly walk through. They are building new temple. Huge stone round balls hanging around. Part of tradition. Once complete they will cut the ropes and the balls will fall down pre-dug holes. Bought some kanom. Whoohoo! Back to hotel and rest a while before dinner. Wonderful food. Friend bread and chilli paste! Oh man it was good. Borrow DVD movie from front desk but I’m too tired to watch. Went back at room and showered. Now time for sleep. Tomorrow I have to wake up early again for interviews!
